What our young people say about us

“I started working with Michael five years ago when I was 14. l was introduced to him through Oak bank school because I had been kicked out of a few schools in the past and I needed to develop my confidence and self esteem because I wanted to join the army at the time. Michael helped me express myself through music and taught me life and social skills by mentoring me. Without Michael I would have probably ended up in prison, he guided me down the right path and I’m now working on my business goals.”

I feel very fortunate to have Reece as my mentor which started as part of our company’s FIS female mentorship program at the beginning of this year. I have benefited greatly from our bi-weekly meetings which proved of tremendous value and left me with many ideas on how I can improve the way I work each time we spoke. Being fairly new to my role, our discussions often revolved around improving time and project management skills, effective communication as well as challenges in dealing
with stakeholders. Our sessions together have allowed me to view tasks and obstacles from a different perspective with Reece often sharing valuable insights and techniques that I could apply to my role instantly. Thanks to Reece encouraging me, I am pleased to also have gained confidence in the process of our mentorship. Lastly, I would like to thank Reece for his time, dedication and support which have been an important contribution to my career development.

“I attend a group youth session and have worked with Lisa for about 2 years I had to attend so I could watch my brother but Lisa got me involved and joining in which helped build my confidence and self esteem. I have not self harmed since working with Lisa we have written a safety plan and she has given me lots of distraction techniques to use. I now have the confidence to ask for help and feel better about myself.”

“Since I started my journey in 2018 with Michael my skill set within the music industry has drastically improved and allowed me to venture into many opportunities. I have bettered my lifestyle and life choices shaping me into a better young man. Throughout my interactions with Michael I have had a great teaching experience and I am now able to write, mix, master, beat make and operate many platforms involved within the music scene.

“I worked with Lisa to update my cv she was honest and able to explain clearly what I needed to do. We also completed a personal statement which helped me get a job a Nottingham city council I had never worked before I was in prison so never thought I’d get a job and would probably go back to selling drugs but after Lisa’s encouragement and support I am now in work.”

I have had the privilege of knowing Reece Shannon-Sinclair since he became my mentor within Worldpay’s Women’s Mentoring Network over a year ago. When I first met Reece, I was going through a big role change within the company. He was able to provide me great advice around navigating my relationships across the organisation and setting myself up for success in the role. He instinctively shared multiple recommendations of people who I could connect with and learn from relating to my new role. Reece shared things he had learned from his own experience, however made sure to provide recommendations based on his familiarity with the people involved, the role I was going into and taking into account my own personality and communication style. When I come to him with problems, he doesn’t jump to solutions but continues to ask questions helping me think through my options. His wide variety of roles and experiences, strong internal and external network and ability to give constructive feedback makes him a fantastic mentor and has been instrumental in my recent

“Karl has been the best mentor I could ever ask for. He’s helped me develop my confidence even more which has allowed me to speak up for myself and take the action needed to live the life I was meant to live. He’s helped me come out of my shell. He has such infinite wisdom drawn from experience and is poetic in how he speaks, that always leads you back home to your heart.”
